The McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament has unveiled an exciting new feature, the Fiji Fastest Player Sprint, set to take place on the tournament’s final day. This thrilling event will see the fastest players from each participating team face off in a competitive 100-metre dash, injecting an additional layer of excitement into the already action-packed tournament.
The sprint will be divided into three distinct divisions to ensure fair competition: the Youth division will feature 16 competitors, the Women’s division will have 10, while the Men’s division will include 24 participants. Each team will nominate one player from their roster to represent them in a true test of speed and athleticism, amplifying the competitive spirit that characterizes rugby sevens.
Francis Lee, General Manager of the Shangri-La Yanuca Island Fiji Resort, expressed enthusiasm for the new initiative. He stated, “We are proud to support an initiative that celebrates performance, inclusivity, and excitement across all divisions of the game. The Fastest Player Sprint is a fantastic addition to the tournament, and we are delighted to reward the winners with a Shangri-La experience that reflects excellence both on and off the field.”
Organizers have highlighted that the Fastest Player Sprint aims to boost fan engagement, create shareable content, and deliver memorable moments for all spectators and broadcast audiences. The winners of each division will receive premium prizes provided by the Shangri-La Yanuca Island Fiji Resort, emphasizing their commitment to recognizing excellence in youth, women’s, and men’s rugby.
The sprint will occur on Saturday, January 17, with specific scheduling and race format details to be announced as the event date approaches. The upcoming tournament will run from January 15 to 17 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, and fans can look forward to watching the live coverage on FBC Sports. This addition promises to enhance the overall experience of an already vibrant event, celebrating not just the sport but the athletes’ dedication and skill.
