A slow‑moving trough of low pressure sitting over the islands will keep conditions unsettled across Fiji for the next day or two, with persistent east to southeast winds and areas of heavy rain. A strong wind warning remains in force for the southern Lau group, Yasayasa Moala, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, the Yasawa, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, the southern and eastern half of Viti Levu (from the Sigatoka coral coast through Suva up to Rakiraki), southern Bua and Cakaudrove including Taveuni and nearby smaller islands. A heavy rain alert is also current for parts of Viti Levu, Cakaudrove, southern Bua, Taveuni, Lomaiviti and Kadavu.
For the islands listed in the wind warning expect steady east to southeast winds of 35 to 45 km/h with gusts up to 55 km/h at times. Seas will be rough to very rough in these areas. Elsewhere across the group winds will be moderate to fresh from the southeast and seas generally moderate to rough. Mariners and anyone planning to be at sea should take the strong winds and rough conditions into account.
Frequent showers, occasional rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected, with the heaviest falls focused on the interior and the southern and eastern parts of Viti Levu (including Rakiraki–Korovou–Naitasiri, Nausori–Suva–Navua and Pacific Harbour to Sigatoka), plus Cakaudrove and southern Bua provinces, Taveuni, the Lomaiviti group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Occasional showers with isolated heavy falls are also possible over the Lau group. Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low‑lying and flood‑prone areas.
Conditions in urban and coastal centres will reflect the broader pattern. Navua, Suva and Nausori can expect east to southeast winds 35–45 km/h with gusts to 55 km/h, occasional rain and isolated thunderstorms, and temperatures around 23–29°C. Nadi, Lautoka and Ba will see cloudy periods with isolated afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms with highs near 31°C. Sigatoka and the Coral Coast, Yasawa/Mamanuca and Rakiraki will also experience gusty southeast winds, showers and isolated thunderstorms; many other island stations from Taveuni to Kadavu and the Lomaiviti and Lau groups carry similar forecasts and flash‑flooding risk where heavy falls develop. Rotuma will have occasional showers, isolated thunderstorms and moderate southeasterly winds with moderate to rough seas.
With rough to very rough seas and strong gusty winds in many areas, coastal communities, boat operators and anyone in flood‑prone locations should take precautions. Secure loose outdoor items and avoid driving through flooded roads; be prepared for sudden heavy downpours and possible localised flash flooding. Keep tuned to official local forecasts and warnings as the trough remains slow moving and conditions may change.
