Mathias Lenialu will take over as the head of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force following the departure of Commissioner Mostyn Mangau. Mangau, who served in the role for six years, was honored at a farewell parade held at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara on Wednesday.
During his tenure, Mangau led the RSIP through several key events, including effective security operations related to the 2023 Pacific Games, national elections, and preparations for the 2024 Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting.
Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele commended Mangau for his significant contributions to border management during the COVID-19 pandemic. Under Mangau’s leadership, the police force played a crucial role in enforcing quarantine measures and maintaining public order while providing essential policing services.
Additionally, Mangau was instrumental in the launch of the RSIPF 10-Year Strategic Direction, a vital framework aimed at reform, capability development, and enhanced service delivery for the coming decade, as highlighted by Prime Minister Manele.
This transition in leadership reflects both the continuity and evolution within the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force, as it strives to meet the demands of a changing environment while enhancing the safety and security of its communities.
