John Tawai, a former Levuka Public School (LPS) student, celebrated proudly as his son, Willie Roko, participated in the Fiji Finals opening parade held in Suva. Along with other parents from Ovalau, Tawai arrived early to support the LPS students, who were honored to lead the flag-raising ceremony as color bearers and band members for the first time in history.

“This is a proud moment for all of us,” Tawai shared, noting the significance of being the first maritime school to participate in such a ceremonial role at the event. His son, a form six senior and a dedicated member of the school band, is also competing in the senior boys high jump. Tawai expressed his pride in Roko’s commitment to his training, schoolwork, and church duties, recognizing the hard work that landed him a spot in this prestigious competition.

The opportunity for LPS to lead the color party parade arose following their impressive performance at a recent zone meet, showcasing the talent and discipline of the students. Tawai conveyed the uplifting atmosphere of the event and extended gratitude to God for the opportunity. “You can feel the excitement,” he remarked.

Tawai’s strong belief in his son’s capabilities, supported by the community and parental enthusiasm, sets a hopeful tone for the students as they are poised to deliver their best performances at the Fiji Finals, celebrating not only their athletic prowess but also exemplifying the spirit of unity and determination in their endeavors.

This moment reflects a promising future for the students of LPS, who are not just making their mark in sports, but also in their contributions to community pride and support. As Tawai stated, “We’re just proud to be here.”
