Marist Brothers High School (MBHS) has emerged victorious in the boys’ division at the 2025 Coca-Cola Games, a highlight of the school’s athletics program, which has seen a strategic shift toward field events under the guidance of head coach Antonio Rabuiliku. Reflecting on their successful strategies, Rabuiliku said, “We knew it was going to be haywire on the tracks, so we focused our attention on the field.” This focus paid off, as the team secured 12 gold, 9 silver, and 9 bronze medals throughout the competition.
The hardest-fought events were in traditional field categories like throws and jumps, which have historically been strengths for Marist. Rabuiliku expressed gratitude towards both his coaching staff and the competitive spirit displayed by rival schools, stating, “Hats off to the Marist field coaches, and the track coaches as well. The amount of work put in during preparation made the difference.”
The games not only highlight individual achievements but also foster community spirit, with MBHS receiving substantial support from alumni and local supporters throughout the events held at HFC Bank Stadium. This support plays a crucial role in motivating the young athletes and showcases the importance of teamwork and preparation.
In looking ahead, Rabuiliku mentioned he would evaluate his future with the team, hinting at a possible transition into farming if he feels his commitment is no longer needed. Nevertheless, he expressed pride in the team’s accomplishments during this year’s competition, noting that the collective effort has paved the way for a promising future for both current and prospective student-athletes at the school.
Overall, the achievements of Marist Brothers High School at this year’s Coca-Cola Games not only reflect their hard work and focus but also inspire hope and excitement for the future of athletics in Fiji. The dedication of the athletes and coaches, paired with strong community support, underscores the positive role of sports in developing young talent and fostering unity in schools.
