A moist southeasterly wind flow will keep much of Fiji over cloudy skies and scattered showers into Friday (tomorrow), with the greatest rainfall and thunderstorm activity expected about Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Occasional heavy falls are forecast for several coastal and interior districts, and localised heavy downpours may lead to flash flooding in low‑lying and flood‑prone areas. Winds are expected to be moderate to fresh from the southeast, with seas moderate to rough.
The heaviest and most persistent showers—some of them isolated and heavy—are expected over Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra‑Rakiraki, southern Bua, Cakaudrove and eastern Macuata. Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands will see cloudy periods with some showers. Elsewhere conditions will be generally fine apart from the more typical afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms.
Forecasts for populated centres reflect the same pattern of afternoon or evening thunderstorm risk. Navua, Suva and Nausori can expect occasional showers with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms tomorrow, with temperatures around 25–32°C and similar conditions into Saturday. Nadi, Lautoka and Ba should see fine weather apart from afternoon or evening showers but with thunderstorms possible and daytime highs near 34°C. Sigatoka and the Coral Coast, Tavua and Rakiraki, and the Yasawa/Mamanuca group are expected to have mainly fine spells interrupted by late‑day thunderstorms and heavy falls at times.
Northern and outer island districts remain prone to showers and isolated heavy falls. Labasa, Savusavu and Nabouwalu can expect occasional showers with afternoon or evening thunderstorms and maxima in the low‑to‑mid 30s. Taveuni, Lau, Lomaiviti and Kadavu will have cloudy periods with some showers and the possibility of heavy late‑day storms. Rotuma currently has an easterly flow; a trough of low pressure is expected to affect the island from later tomorrow, bringing showers that will become more frequent and occasional thunderstorms by Saturday. Rotuma’s winds are moderate easterlies with moderate seas.
Practical points: localised heavy rainfall may cause flash flooding in low‑lying and flood‑prone areas, and afternoon thunderstorms could produce brief intense downpours. Moderate to fresh southeasterly winds and moderate to rough seas are expected around the group, while Rotuma will see moderate easterly winds and seas. Mariners and residents in vulnerable locations should be aware of changing conditions over the next 24–48 hours.
