A weak trough of low pressure over the southwest of Viti Levu, combined with a moist easterly wind flow, will keep cloud and showers across parts of the group through tomorrow. The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi issued this bulletin at 5:30am on Saturday, 21 March 2026.
Occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected tonight over Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, southern Bua, Cakaudrove, eastern Macuata, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, as well as Lau, Lomaiviti, Kadavu and adjacent isles. Elsewhere conditions will be generally fine apart from the chance of afternoon or evening showers, but afternoon thunderstorms with heavy falls are expected over parts of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low‑lying and flood‑prone areas.
City and district outlooks reflect the same pattern. Navua, Suva and Nausori can expect occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms tonight with a minimum around 24°C and a maximum near 31°C; on Sunday expect cloudy periods with some showers and afternoon thunderstorms, temperatures rising slightly to about 25–32°C. Nadi, Lautoka and Ba, along with Sigatoka/Coral Coast, Tavua/Rakiraki, the Yasawa/Mamanuca group and Labasa, are likely to remain mostly fine apart from afternoon or evening showers but with the risk of afternoon thunderstorms and heavy falls (overnight minima around 24°C and daytime maxima around 31–32°C). Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu will see occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms with similar temperature ranges.
Rotuma remains under a trough of low pressure and will see cloudy periods with some showers and isolated thunderstorms. Winds there are expected to be moderate to fresh easterlies with seas moderate to rough. Temperatures for Rotuma are forecast around a 24°C minimum and up to about 32°C, easing slightly on Sunday.
Moderate easterly winds and moderate seas are expected elsewhere across the group. Because localised heavy rainfall could cause flash flooding in low‑lying and flood‑prone locations, residents in vulnerable areas should take precautions and monitor updates. Mariners should note the moderate conditions and the rougher seas around Rotuma, and everyone should exercise care during afternoon thunderstorms and periods of heavy rainfall.
