A trough of low pressure close to Fiji, combined with a moist northeasterly wind flow, will keep the northeast islands and parts of the main islands unsettled into tomorrow. Occasional showers with isolated heavy falls are expected across the northeastern provinces and many outer islands, while afternoons on Viti Levu and Vanua Levu are likely to produce thunderstorms with heavy downpours.
Through to midnight tomorrow, occasional showers with isolated heavy falls are forecast for Navua–Suva–Nausori, Tailevu–Naitasiri–Ra–Rakiraki, eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Showers are expected to ease to some showers from tomorrow morning. Elsewhere conditions will be mainly fine apart from the usual afternoon or evening showers. Afternoon thunderstorms with heavy falls are likely over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu and these localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas.
Winds will be moderate from the northeasterly quarter today with moderate seas. The outlook for Thursday is for cloudy periods with some showers across Serua–Namosi, Navua–Suva–Nausori, Tailevu–Naitasiri–Ra, eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove, southern Bua, Taveuni and nearby islands, as well as the Lau and Lomaiviti groups and Kadavu. Elsewhere it should remain fine apart from afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms. Winds are forecast to be moderate easterlies with moderate seas, and afternoon thunderstorms with heavy falls remain likely over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Again, localised heavy falls could cause flash flooding of low-lying areas.
Local forecasts reflect these general conditions. Navua/Suva/Nausori, Natadradave/Korovou, Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, Lau and Lomaiviti, Kadavu and parts of Cakaudrove and eastern Macuata can expect occasional showers, easing to some showers from tomorrow, with afternoon thunderstorms and heavy falls likely. Sigatoka/Coral Coast, Nadi/Lautoka/Ba and Labasa should be mainly fine apart from afternoon or evening showers, though thunderstorms with heavy falls are possible in the afternoons. Tavua/Rakiraki and the Yasawa/Mamanuca group may see occasional showers and isolated heavy falls, with conditions easing from tomorrow. Typical daytime maxima are near 31–32°C and nighttime minima around 25°C as noted in the district forecasts.
Rotuma will be affected separately by a trough from later today into tomorrow. Expect cloudy periods with some showers, becoming occasional with isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls from later today and easing from later tomorrow. Winds will be moderate to fresh easterlies with moderate to rough seas around the island. Mariners and residents in low-lying coastal areas should take note of the rougher conditions and the potential for heavy, localized rainfall.
