The third edition of the Fiji Bitter Malake 7s commenced yesterday, drawing 64 teams to the Narauyaba Ground in Rakiraki for three days of competitive rugby.
Tournament president Isoa Tute stated that the event is designed to promote rugby while contributing to the development of Malake Village.
“We have 32 men’s teams, 24 under-21 teams, and 8 women’s teams participating, representing various regions of Fiji, including Ra,” Tute noted.
The tournament aims to showcase the skills of the Malake Village team and acts as a significant fundraising event for local initiatives. Two-thirds of the funds generated will be allocated for village development, while the remaining third will help finance the Malake 7s team’s entry into other local competitions.
“Our primary projects include renovating the church and building a gym for the village,” Tute mentioned.
The Malake 7s committee is dedicated to a five-year fundraising strategy, ensuring the tournament continues to aid both rugby and the enhancement of the community.
