The Fiji Bitter Malake 7s tournament began yesterday, marking its third edition, with 64 teams gathered at Narauyaba Ground in Rakiraki for three days of competitive rugby.

Tournament president Isoa Tute emphasized that the event not only promotes rugby but also aids in the development of Malake Village. “We have 32 men’s teams, 24 under-21 teams, and 8 women’s teams participating from various regions of Fiji, including Ra,” Tute noted.

He further explained that the tournament showcases the skills of the Malake Village team and serves as a key fundraising initiative for community projects. Two-thirds of the proceeds will be allocated to village development, while the remaining third will assist the Malake 7s team in entering other local competitions.

“Our primary projects include renovating the church and constructing a gym for the village,” Tute shared. The Malake 7s committee is dedicated to a five-year fundraising strategy, aiming to ensure that the tournament continues to foster both rugby and community enhancement.
