The Public Service Commission (PSC) has revealed a reshuffle involving three key Permanent Secretaries, scheduled to take effect on February 3, 2025. This decision, made in consultation with the Prime Minister, aims to enhance leadership within essential government ministries.
Dr. Raijeli Taga will transition from her current role as Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister to serve as Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In her place, Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, who currently oversees the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will become the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister. Additionally, Dr. Korovavala will take on the responsibilities of Acting Permanent Secretary for Immigration, reporting directly to the Minister of Immigration.
Furthermore, Mr. Manasa Lesuma, the current Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Housing, has expanded his responsibilities and has been serving as Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Policing since January 14, 2025.
Chairman of the PSC, Luke Rokovada, stated that these adjustments reflect the government’s commitment to optimizing administrative effectiveness and strengthening leadership across key sectors. This strategy is designed to ensure that ministries are led by qualified professionals, ultimately improving service delivery and fostering an innovative public service.
The reshuffle comes in response to ongoing concerns regarding workload distribution among government officials and emphasizes the importance of appointing leaders based on their expertise. By investing in local talent for critical roles, the government seeks to cultivate a responsive and effective public service framework.
Overall, this reshuffle presents a hopeful outlook for the future of governance in Fiji, aiming to enhance accountability and efficiency within the public sector. It signifies a proactive step toward improving the nation’s administrative landscape, signaling a commitment to addressing the needs of citizens effectively.
