Police are investigating a significant drug discovery at Pacific Batteries in Lami, where approximately 20 kilograms of substances believed to be methamphetamine were found hidden inside old vehicle batteries. The police received the report early this morning, prompting an immediate response. Forensic officers are conducting thorough checks on the batteries held at the factory, as they seek to uncover more details regarding this operation.

This incident comes on the heels of a series of drug-related law enforcement actions taken in Fiji. Earlier this week, police intercepted a shipment of over 15 cartons suspected to contain methamphetamine at a courier office in Nadi, which was confirmed by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew. Multiple significant drug busts have taken place this year, which include a major seizure of approximately 3 tonnes of narcotics in Legalega, Nadi, further emphasizing the ongoing challenge of drug trafficking in the region.

These recent events highlight the urgent need for comprehensive approaches to combat the rising issue of methamphetamine and other illicit drugs in Fiji. Community engagement, effective law enforcement, and robust support systems for prevention and rehabilitation are crucial in addressing this pressing situation.

The continued efforts by the Fiji Police aim not only to tackle drug trafficking head-on but also to create a safer environment for the community, serving as a reminder of the ongoing battle against substance abuse. As investigations progress, anticipation grows for developments that will shed light on the broader implications of drug trafficking in Fiji.
