Nine individuals have been found guilty by the Lautoka High Court in a major drug trafficking case involving over 4.1 tonnes of methamphetamine. The defendants include Justin Ho, David Heritage, Louie Logaivau, Jale Aukerea, Sakiusa Tuva, Ratu Aporosa Davelevu, Ratu Osea Levula, Cathy Tuirabe, and Vilimae Colawaliku. They faced charges related to the importation and possession of the methamphetamine, which occurred between November 2023 and January 2024 in Nadi.
Among the group, Justin Ho, Louie Logaivau, and Jale Aukerea were also charged with possessing property suspected to be the proceeds of crime. Justice Aruna Aluthge delivered the verdict, maintaining the charges against the majority while finding Ratu Aporosa Davelevu and Louie Logaivau not guilty on specific counts. The case is set for a sentencing hearing on August 8, 2025.
This ruling comes as part of ongoing efforts within Fiji’s judicial system to combat drug trafficking and deter similar offenses in the future. The convictions not only reinforce accountability but also reflect broader actions being taken to enhance public safety and trust in law enforcement. The anticipated sentencing will be closely watched, as it may strengthen deterrent measures against drug-related crimes.
The commitment to addressing such serious allegations is a hopeful signal that community safety and the integrity of the judicial system are being prioritized, which could further lead to a more secure environment for residents in Fiji.
