The Parramatta Eels have announced the release of winger Maika Sivo from the remaining years of his contract. The Fijian athlete had been linked to a possible exit from the club following a challenging 2024 season.

Despite continuing to showcase his remarkable try-scoring abilities, Sivo faced scrutiny over his defensive performance and found himself sidelined at times throughout the season. These ongoing issues have now led to his official departure, although his next destination remains uncertain.

Parramatta’s general manager of football, Mark O’Neill, expressed gratitude to Sivo and his family in a statement, wishing them success in their future endeavors, both in rugby league and beyond.

Sivo concludes his tenure with the Eels boasting an impressive record of 104 tries in 115 games and has also represented Fiji in 12 Test matches since joining the club in 2019.

He becomes the second prominent player to part ways with the Eels this off-season, following Reagan Campbell-Gillard’s move to the Gold Coast Titans. The Eels have already signed Zac Lomax for 2025, in addition to backs Joash Papalii and Jordan Samrani, and are reportedly interested in bringing Blake Wilson and Josh Addo-Carr on board as potential new wing options.
