The Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Mosese Bulitavu, recently presented a new engine boat to Macuata-i-Wai Village in Vanua Levu, significantly enhancing the community’s transport capabilities and resilience to climate change.
This new vessel is anticipated to be instrumental in the daily activities of the village, enabling residents to efficiently transport vegetables to markets and to securely deliver drinking water to the community, which currently lacks a reliable water supply.
The handover marks a milestone following the village’s successful access to climate financing through the Communities Climate Adaptation Facility (C-CAF), managed by the Global Centre for Climate Mobility. Macuata-i-Wai Village received a grant of USD $100,000, awarded directly to the community in recognition of its proactive approach and leadership in implementing climate adaptation projects.
This initiative not only enhances the community’s transportation network but also reflects a significant step towards greater self-sufficiency and climate resilience. The support received through the C-CAF underscores the importance of local efforts in addressing climate challenges, showcasing a hopeful pathway for other communities facing similar issues.
