The former Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya, will find out her future with the People’s Alliance (PA) party within the next 21 days after the party’s executive committee met to set the stage for her disciplinary hearing. This marks the second time she has faced disciplinary action within the party.

Earlier this year, Tabuya was called before the committee due to allegations related to a sex and drug scandal involving another minister, which resulted in her being removed as the party’s deputy leader. In March, the PA publicly stated that the scandal risked “potentially irreparable damage” to its reputation.

Her current situation refers to a video leaked on Christmas Eve showing her dancing nude, which she has confirmed is genuine. Tabuya stated that the video was meant for her husband, Robert Semaan, from whom she divorced in 2016.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka dismissed her from her ministerial position on December 26. During the executive committee meeting, held virtually from Savusavu, Rabuka contributed to the discussions regarding the pending disciplinary process.

The PA’s general secretary, Sila Balawa, shared that the disciplinary process will adhere to the party’s constitution and that the committee has 21 days to reach a conclusion and share their recommendations. Tabuya will be allowed to present her perspective during the proceedings, emphasizing the committee’s commitment to an impartial and thorough process.

The names of the disciplinary committee members have not been made public, although past members included notable figures such as Filimoni Vosarogo, with Alefina Vuki serving as chair.

In summary, Lynda Tabuya faces serious scrutiny within the PA party as she navigates her second disciplinary hearing. As the process unfolds, it highlights the importance of accountability and proper governance within political parties. The PA’s commitment to a transparent and fair investigation gives hope that all parties involved will be heard, leading to a more informed outcome.

This situation serves as a reminder that political accountability and a transparent process are essential for upholding integrity within party structures, ultimately contributing to public trust in government representatives.
