Lynda Tabuya will continue her role as a member of parliament following an inquiry by the People’s Alliance regarding an explicit video that surfaced on social media last Christmas Eve. The party promptly addressed complaints from its members by adhering to its Constitution, which necessitated escalating the matter to the Legal and National Disciplinary Sub-Committee (LNDSC).
General Secretary Sila Balawa explained that the LNDSC conducted a thorough investigation and subsequently shared its findings with the People’s Management Committee (PMC). This report was then presented to the People’s Executive Committee for a final ruling.
Balawa acknowledged the high public interest in this case, as well as the impatience some may have experienced while awaiting the outcome, emphasizing the necessity for following due process to ensure fairness and justice. The party emphasized that it is crucial to evaluate all aspects of the situation and consider all pertinent facts before arriving at a conclusion.
Ultimately, the inquiry concluded that Tabuya did not intentionally distribute the video nor seek to bring disrepute to the party. The decision was also influenced by her accomplishments as a minister and her extensive service to both the party and the public.
This resolution underscores the importance of maintaining due process and the commitment of the People’s Alliance to ensure fair treatment of its members. It also reflects the party’s recognition of Tabuya’s contributions, emphasizing the value of experience and service in political roles.
