The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has taken decisive action by revoking the driver’s licences of eight individuals implicated in fatal traffic accidents. This decision follows a tragic incident involving a 21-year-old truck driver, whose reckless driving resulted in the death of a 13-year-old student last week on Princes Road in Tacirua.
LTA’s CEO, Irimaia Rokosawa, announced that the truck driver, who was operating with an expired learner’s permit at the time of the accident, will face a five-year licence suspension due to the seriousness of the incident. This revocation serves as a poignant reminder of the grave repercussions associated with irresponsible driving.
Mr. Rokosawa emphasized that this action conveys a clear warning to all drivers about the dangers of negligent behavior on the road. He stated, “This is a lesson for all licence holders – whether Learners, Provisional, or Full Licence holders. You must adhere to your licence conditions.” The LTA maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy towards reckless driving and promises prompt action against those who threaten the safety of road users.
