Lomary Secondary School (LSS) is preparing for the elimination phase of the South Eastern Zone in the Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League competition after a narrow 8-6 loss to Lami High School at Marcellin School in Vatuwaqa, Suva. Despite the setback, LSS U19 coach Sakiusa Naivalu remains optimistic about the team’s spirit and acknowledges the hurdles they have encountered heading into the match.

Coach Naivalu emphasized the need for improvement in the team’s decision-making during gameplay, stating, “We’ll work on our decision-making process while also recognizing the difficulties that the team had to endure, including early morning wake-ups and extensive travel.” This highlights the commitment of the team to learn and develop through experience.

Lami High School has shown impressive advancement, recently defeating defending champions Ratu Kadavulevu School to reach the semi-finals in the Vodafone Super Deans competition for the first time in 14 years. This achievement serves as a source of inspiration for both teams and reflects the competitive nature of school rugby.

As LSS looks ahead to the elimination round, it represents a chance for the team to regroup and apply the lessons learned from their previous matches. The sport not only fosters teamwork and discipline among young players but also instills values of resilience and determination. The journeys of these young athletes symbolize the importance of perseverance and the positive impact of sports in cultivating character in the face of adversity.
