Ravikash Chand, a gold medallist from the University of Fiji School of Business and Economics, is celebrating his recent graduation with a Master of Commerce in Accounting. At 33 years old, Mr. Chand, who teaches at the Pandit Vishnu Deo Memorial College, expressed profound gratitude that his elderly parents were able to attend the graduation ceremony held last Friday at the university’s campus in Saweni, Lautoka.

Receiving the prestigious gold medal for his outstanding performance within the business and economics program, Mr. Chand reflected on his family’s sacrifices, particularly emphasizing his father’s hard work as a labourer who cut sugarcane to minimize educational costs. Despite not coming from a wealthy background, Mr. Chand highlighted how his parents’ relentless dedication laid the foundation for his academic achievements.

As the eldest sibling, he aims to set a strong example for his younger siblings, illustrating that anyone can overcome their circumstances and achieve their dreams. “Regardless of the background we come from, we can all make a difference by breaking barriers and reaching new heights,” he stated.

Mr. Chand began his teaching career in 2012 at All Saints Secondary School in Labasa and is now looking forward to more significant opportunities at the tertiary education level, made possible through his hard-earned master’s degree. He credits his success to diligent time management, balancing family, work, and further studies, along with gratitude for the support from his family and guidance from his lecturers.
