Family Choice Supermarket & Café PTE Limited has officially launched in Walu Bay, Suva, showcasing a fresh community-focused shopping experience. The opening ceremony, held recently, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica, who commended the new venture as an illustration of local entrepreneurship and stability within the Fijian economy.

Owned by Laleena Kumar, an experienced entrepreneur with two existing businesses in the area, the supermarket was established in response to community demand for a comprehensive shopping option. Kumar acknowledged that while the store might have higher prices compared to larger supermarket chains, it aims to provide essential goods conveniently for local industrial workers and maritime islanders.

Kumar has invested around $200,000 in Family Choice and has created jobs for 30 employees, including nine new positions specifically for the supermarket and café. The store operates from 7 AM to 8 PM, Monday through Saturday, promising consistent access to its varied inventory.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the importance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in strengthening the Fijian economy. This initiative symbolizes a growing trend of new businesses aimed at enhancing community services and fostering economic growth. Notably, Family Choice Supermarket mirrors efforts seen in other recent openings, such as the Cagivou Supermarket, which seeks to empower local youth and combat unemployment.

The establishment of Family Choice Supermarket signifies a commitment to supporting local needs and showcases the resilience of entrepreneurs in the region. This is a hopeful development for the community, as it not only meets essential shopping demands but also contributes to local employment and overall economic health.
