The Blue Gas Lilian Amazon Women’s 7s team is gearing up for a significant challenge as the two-day Fiji Bitter Yasawa 7s tournament commences today at Churchill Park in Lautoka. Fresh off their victory at the Fiji Bitter Malake 7s in Ra, the Lilian team is acutely aware of the tough competition they will face this weekend.
Head coach Tirani Uluinakauvadra expressed his belief in the team’s commitment to development, even in the absence of some key players. “We’ve got a young group of girls representing our club today. Many of our experienced players are away with the national sevens team, but that doesn’t shift our focus from development,” Uluinakauvadra commented. He highlighted the importance of nurturing young talent, stating that this tournament is an opportunity for them to showcase their skills.
Facing a formidable challenge, Uluinakauvadra acknowledged the difficulty ahead due to the absence of main players but emphasized the importance of supporting athletes who have the chance to serve on the national team. The Lilian team finds itself in Pool B, where they will contend against strong teams such as Tagimoucia Ranadi and PC Kadavu Stallion, known for their resilience and strategic gameplay.
In Pool A, the competition is equally fierce, with tournament favorites Wardens Women set to compete against Ezers Women and Yasawa Saints. With a strong track record and seasoned players, Wardens Women are anticipated to be strong contenders, yet Ezers Women and Yasawa Saints are poised to deliver surprising performances.
This tournament showcases not only the participants’ skills but also serves as an opportunity for growth and development in women’s rugby within the region, instilling hope for the future of the sport.
Overall, while the Lilian team faces challenges, their focus on youth development and support for national representation highlights a positive and forward-thinking approach to the sport.
