Children in off-grid communities across Fiji are set to benefit from a new initiative aimed at enhancing their educational experience. The Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, officially launched the STEM Education Day at Nadi Airport School, underscoring the government’s dedication to promoting Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) within the education system.
A significant part of this initiative is the introduction of a solar-powered lighting program, which will provide SolarBuddy study lights to children, allowing them to study in proper light conditions at night. This advancement is particularly crucial for students in rural areas who previously faced challenges due to energy poverty.
This initiative, funded entirely by Airbus and in partnership with SolarBuddy and Fiji Airways, aims to tackle the issue of limited educational resources for underprivileged communities. The event also aligns with Fiji’s commitment to achieving 100% renewable energy by 2030, ensuring that every child, regardless of their location, has equitable access to educational resources.
