A 46-year-old Chinese national has been sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum term of 20 years, for the attempted murder of another man. Bi Baodang, who is married and has a young daughter in China, was convicted by Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu for the incident that took place on August 2, 2022.
Court documents reveal that the victim, Qu Guang Qing, was driving home from the wharf at Walu Bay in Suva when Baodang unexpectedly appeared from the back seat. He confronted Mr. Qu, accusing him of mistreatment, while brandishing a knife and ultimately stabbing him in the chest.
A medical report indicated that the stab wound sustained by Mr. Qu was potentially life-threatening and likely caused by a sharp knife.
