Levuka Town has established a new benchmark for the residents of Ovalau Island and the Lomaiviti Group with the inauguration of its new municipal market. The market was officially launched last Friday by Maciu Nalumisa, the Minister for Housing and Local Government.

This new marketplace is designed to serve the communities of Ovalau, Moturiki, and the broader Lomaiviti Group. Minister Nalumisa expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the market’s construction, highlighting its potential to attract significant foot traffic and generate income for vendors.

In addition to the market’s opening, the ministry presented a nine-ton truck to assist vendors with fish delivery and other logistical needs within the town, funded by a government investment of $180,000. Nalumisa encouraged the community to embrace the market, urging them to take pride in their town and support one another as they leverage the opportunities this new facility brings.

The opening of this market represents not only an economic boost for local vendors but also a significant step towards enhancing community cohesion and self-sufficiency in the region.

This initiative is a positive development for the local economy, promising to foster entrepreneurial spirit and create job opportunities, while also reinforcing a sense of community pride and collaboration among the residents of Levuka, Ovalau, and beyond.
