Levuka Town has inaugurated a new municipal market, setting a milestone for the residents of Ovalau Island and the Lomaiviti Group. The official opening took place last Friday, led by the Minister for Housing and Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa.

This market is expected to serve the communities of Ovalau, Moturiki, and the surrounding Lomaiviti Islands, providing a vibrant space for local vendors to thrive. Minister Nalumisa expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who played a role in the market’s construction. He emphasized the market’s potential to attract many visitors and generate income for local vendors.

In a significant move to support these vendors, the ministry presented a nine-ton delivery truck to facilitate the transportation of fish and other goods within the town. The government invested $180,000 for this vehicle. Minister Nalumisa encouraged the community to embrace the new market, highlighting its quality as one of the best in Fiji. He urged residents to take pride in their town, support one another, and seize the opportunities that this facility presents.

This new market not only enhances the local economy but also fosters community spirit and collaboration. As Levuka Town embraces this new development, it holds great promise for boosting livelihoods and bringing the community closer together.

The establishment of this market is a hopeful sign of progress and economic growth, offering a brighter future for the people of Levuka and the surrounding areas.
