Former Acting President of the Lautoka Football Association, Faiaaz Ali, has recently reported a leaked internal email to local police and the Online Safety Commission after it surfaced on Facebook pages including Fiji Sports News and Fiji Exposed Forum. The email, which was intended for the Lautoka FA executives, requests Ali to submit comprehensive financial records from his term as Acting President, covering the period from April 29 to May 23, 2025.
In the correspondence, the Lautoka Football Association asserts that multiple attempts have been made via emails and phone calls to obtain accounting details regarding income and expenses during Ali’s tenure. However, they claim that the necessary information has not been provided, which is now impacting preparations for the upcoming financial audit for 2025. This delay could also hinder the scheduling of the Annual General Meeting set for next month.
Ali was given a seven-day deadline to present a thorough income and expenditure statement, complete with supporting documents, receipts, and executive meeting minutes that justify any payments made during his leadership. The letter also inquired about any loans procured in the name of Lautoka FA and asked for clarity on donations collected using the association’s letterhead. Additionally, it sought information regarding the online sale of Lautoka FA merchandise, specifically T-shirts and caps, which the association claims were not accounted for.
In response to the emergence of the email, Ali stated that it was never intended for public release and confirmed that he has elevated the matter to relevant authorities. He raised questions regarding the timing and legitimacy of the claims outlined in the letter, indicating there may be more to the situation than meets the eye.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns over transparency and accountability within sporting organizations, underscoring the need for proper communication and processes to foster trust among stakeholders.
