Less than three months after being appointed, Amenatave Yauvoli has resigned from his position as the permanent secretary for the Civil Service and Public Enterprises. His resignation, effective July 31, was confirmed by the Public Service Commission (PSC) with the agreement of the Prime Minister. PSC chairman Luke Rokovada noted that Yauvoli stepped down for personal reasons and has accepted a senior executive role with the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) in Suva.
In his commendation, Rokovada acknowledged Yauvoli’s dedicated service in various capacities over the years, including his previous roles as Fiji’s Ambassador to Indonesia and as permanent secretary for Commerce, Trade, and Investment, as well as Foreign Affairs. To ensure continuity in leadership, the PSC announced the appointment of acting officials effective August 1: Pita Tagicakirewa, who was the permanent secretary for iTaukei Affairs, Culture, Arts, and Heritage, was appointed acting permanent secretary for the Civil Service, while Laisa Bolalevu, director of Monitoring Public Enterprises, will act as the permanent secretary for Public Enterprises.
These leadership changes are intended to provide stability in response to the recent transitions in public service leadership, notably following Yauvoli’s unexpected resignation and the passing of former permanent secretary Parmesh Chand. The ongoing commitment to nurturing strong leadership reflects the government’s proactive approach to enhancing governance and public administration in Fiji, suggesting a hopeful outlook for effective public service delivery in the future.
