A lawyer representing Leone Lesumailepanoni, a farmer accused of robbing the Alison Supermarket in Laucala Beach Estate near Suva, has been granted additional time to submit a supplementary affidavit. High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe allowed defense attorney Shivani Narayan from the Legal Aid Commission 14 days for this purpose.
Leone Lesumailepanoni has filed a new bail application after withdrawing a previous one in the same court. The prosecution alleges that on December 2 of the prior year, Lesumailepanoni, along with two accomplices, committed a violent robbery by tying up a taxi driver and threatening supermarket attendants and shoppers while armed with cane knives. During the incident, they reportedly stole around $24,000 from a customer and $1,650.35 from the supermarket itself.
The state is represented by Prosecutor Simone Seruvatu from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. The bail hearing for Mr. Lesumailepanoni is scheduled for July 1.
This ongoing case reflects the serious issue of violent crime in commercial areas and emphasizes the need for heightened security measures to protect the public. As the legal proceedings unfold, there remains a community hope for justice, contributing to a safer environment for everyone involved. With the right legal processes in place, there is optimism that accountability will be pursued effectively, reinforcing safety in local neighborhoods.
