Teachers from the Lautoka School for Special Education took time out of their schedules to visit the Golden Age Home on December 19, presenting personalized pre-Christmas gifts to the residents. This initiative was part of the Tower 2025 project, which emerged from the Fiji Council of Special Education’s annual general meeting. The event aims to promote inclusion and foster community service among teachers from 17 special schools.

Originally slated for December 11, the visit was postponed due to adverse weather conditions. Project lead and Lautoka School teacher Nandita Nandini Sharma expressed the importance of the event, stating, “We are here today to present the gifts to the residents with the Ministry of Education.”

In a thoughtful approach, the group sought input from the residents prior to the visit, ensuring that the gifts catered to their specific desires. Residents expressed their preferences for items such as T-shirts, shorts, dresses, and personal care items, which the teachers carefully curated into gift packs. The residents also received snacks, Christmas cakes, and juice, further enhancing the festive spirit of the occasion.

Ms. Sharma emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “They were very happy, and that is our main purpose to include them and just to show them love.” The educators believe in inclusivity, reflecting a commitment to kindness and compassion toward the elderly in the community. The successful execution of this event illustrates the power of community engagement and the profound impact of thoughtful gestures in spreading joy during the holiday season.
