The newly inaugurated Lautoka Police Station represents a significant advancement in law enforcement in the region, uniting essential policing functions within a state-of-the-art facility. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who officiated the launch, emphasized the importance of collaboration between police officers and community leaders to effectively combat crime and enhance safety throughout Lautoka.
With a substantial investment of $30 million, the new police station aims to bolster service delivery and improve response capabilities in the city. Rabuka acknowledged Lautoka’s rich policing heritage that dates back to 1899, urging officers to maintain the esteemed traditions of the Fiji Police Force. He also urged the community—families and schools included—to take a proactive role in fostering safe behaviors, especially in light of recent violent incidents.
In expressing gratitude to the community and the various project teams, Rabuka highlighted the support received from regional partners like the Australian Federal Police, reinforcing the collective effort towards enhancing public safety.
Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu remarked that this new facility symbolizes more than just a modern structure; it reflects the necessity for policing services to evolve in response to the community’s expectations. He stated, “The renovated police station signifies our commitment to not only pride in our new infrastructure but also demands that we enhance our service to the public,” acknowledging the government’s continued support for the police organization.
The opening of the Lautoka Police Station is not only a milestone for the local law enforcement community but also offers hope for a safer and more secure environment for all residents, fostering a spirit of cooperation and vigilance as they work together to ensure public safety.
