Lautoka has been selected to host the 2024 Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Basketball Championship, as announced at a launch event held at the Lautoka City Council Chambers. Prashant Prasad, the Senior Business Relationship Manager for Vodafone in the Western and Northern Regions, expressed pride in supporting the Fiji Secondary Schools Basketball Nationals for a second year. He shared excitement about the upcoming tournament, anticipating thrilling games and acknowledging the challenges teams will face in their pursuit of victory.
Prasad emphasized the importance of determination, skill, and sportsmanship as over 50 teams prepare for the competition, welcoming new schools participating this year. He encouraged the athletes to play with passion, respect, and integrity, noting that their hard work has led them to this moment.
Lautoka City Council CEO Mohammed Anees Khan expressed eagerness to host the event, which will take place over three days. This year, 70 schools will compete with over 800 students participating. Lautoka Muslim College will make its debut with an Under 19 boys’ team, while Ratu Kadavulevu School, Sacred Heart College, and Votualevu College will return to the competition. The tournament is scheduled for August 29-31.
