A group of dedicated individuals conducted a city-wide cleanup in Lautoka last Saturday, with their actions seen as a testament to their faith. The initiative, led by approximately 30 members of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, highlighted the importance of community spirit, even amid challenging weather conditions.
The cleanup covered a designated route beginning at SPD, moving through Navutu, and extending to the main roundabout and Natabua junction. Volunteers focused on clearing unlit waste such as plastics, cans, bottles, and paper from roadside walkways and drains. Their efforts resulted in the collection of 12 large sacks of rubbish, showcasing a significant commitment to maintaining the environment.
“This is how we live our faith, by showing love through action,” stated a representative from the church. The initiative was supported by the Lautoka City Council, which assisted with waste disposal, further emphasizing community collaboration.
Organizers framed the cleanup as an essential lesson in civic responsibility and environmental stewardship. A church representative articulated the campaign’s four-fold purpose: preserving Lautoka’s natural beauty, combating environmental pollution, educating younger generations about responsible citizenship, and making a tangible contribution to community welfare.
