The Lautoka City Council has proudly completed a $2.8 million upgrade of the city’s bus terminal, which has not seen major renovations in 42 years. This significant project, funded entirely by the council, marks a vital improvement for public transportation infrastructure in the area.

During the opening ceremony held on Monday, Taitusi Rasoki, chairperson of the Board of Special Administrators, confirmed that the total expenditure for the project amounted to $2,774,664, completed on schedule and without exceeding the budget. “This upgrade was completed within the agreed timeline and within the agreed estimated cost with no additional cost to the council,” Rasoki stated, expressing gratitude towards the consulting firm and contractor for their commitment to the project’s schedule.

The refurbishment included essential enhancements such as concrete surfacing, fresh painting, and the installation of CCTV cameras, aimed at improving both safety and functionality for users of the terminal. Rasoki emphasized that after decades of neglect, ensuring a modern and efficient bus station became a top priority for the current special administrators and management.

With West End Consulting PTE Ltd serving as consultants and Hot Spring High Services PTE Ltd acting as the lead contractor, the project effectively addresses the long-standing deterioration of the Lautoka bus station, ensuring that it meets contemporary standards and provides a better service to the community. This upgrade not only represents a significant investment in local infrastructure but also reflects the council’s dedication to improving public services for its residents.
