Schools in the Lau Group are set to reopen today, February 27, 2025, following a thorough evaluation of the effects caused by Tropical Cyclone Rae. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro announced this decision after discussions with various divisions and the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), which made favorable recommendations for the resumption of classes.

The cyclone had a significant impact on local infrastructure, damaging roads, bridges, and crossings that posed challenges for students to access their schools. With conditions now stabilized, officials believe that reopening schools is essential for the well-being of both the students and the wider community. Minister Radrodro expressed gratitude to the Lau Group residents for their patience and resilience during this difficult time.

Other regions, including the Northern Division, Lomaiviti, Western, Central Divisions, and Rotuma, have already resumed classes, and the Ministry of Education is actively monitoring the situation nationwide. Parents are urged to assess local conditions to ensure the safety of their children before deciding to send them back to school.

School officials have been instructed to maintain close communication with Management Committees, District, and Divisional Officers for updates concerning school operations.

This reopening marks an essential move towards recovery and educational stability, highlighting the strength and solidarity of the affected communities. As families and educational institutions work together to overcome the challenges posed by the cyclone, there is a promising outlook for a return to normalcy in education, allowing students and families to rebuild in unity.
