The director of the R.C. Manubhai Nataleira Sevens tournament, Solo Finau, announced that there are still openings for teams to register ahead of the upcoming tournament. The registration period will close soon, specifically by the end of tomorrow.

Finau reported that 12 teams have already signed up for the Tier One category, but there’s still a desire to reach a total of 16 teams. He mentioned that if only 12 teams register by the deadline, then that will be the final count. The Tier Two category has seen a robust response with 16 teams currently registered, pending final confirmation of their participation fees.

In the women’s Tier Three category, six teams have confirmed their spots, with an aim to secure a total of eight participants. Meanwhile, the Under-19 Tier Four category has seen eight teams confirmed, with the hope to reach 16 teams by the same deadline. To verify participants’ ages in this category, Voter Registration ID cards will be utilized.

Finau emphasized the urgency of the registration process, which operates on a first-come, first-served basis across all categories. He also shared the tournament’s financial goals, aiming to raise $30,000. The funds will be directed towards rebuilding the Nataleira Methodist Church, which suffered significant damage during Cyclones Winston and Harold.

Ticket prices for the tournament have also been set, with discounted rates for children under 12 and varying prices for adults depending on the day of attendance.

This event not only fosters community engagement through sports but also aims to contribute to the rebuilding of a crucial local institution, presenting a positive opportunity for growth and recovery for those affected by natural disasters.
