Fiji National Futsal Head Coach Jose Gerardo has praised the dedication of coaches from the Northern Division following their participation in a three-day Futsal Coaching Course at the Fiji FA Academy in Labasa over the weekend. The course successfully brought together 15 coaches from regions including Dreketi, Bua, Udu, Savusavu, and Labasa, as part of Fiji FA’s ongoing initiative to enhance futsal development at the grassroots level.
Gerardo emphasized the exceptional enthusiasm displayed by the participants, noting their commitment to promoting futsal within their communities. He also acknowledged the notable involvement of a female coach from Udu Point, who balances her role as a school teacher with her coaching duties, marking a positive trend for the sport’s expansion.
Highlighting the importance of educators in coaching programs, Gerardo stated that schools serve as crucial platforms for introducing and fostering futsal among young athletes. He believes that the course provided participants with a solid foundation in futsal basics, coaching strategies, and essential game concepts, which is anticipated to raise the overall standard of the sport in the Northern Division.
Looking ahead, Gerardo announced that the development program will continue with a subsequent coaching course scheduled to take place in the Western Division, specifically in Ba, from Wednesday to Friday this week. This proactive approach further underscores Fiji FA’s commitment to enriching the futsal landscape across the country and fostering talent at a young age.
