Twelve new job opportunities have emerged in Korovou Town with the inauguration of a mini mart and kava bar, marking a significant vote of confidence in a community facing a decline in population. The new establishment, operated by Commercial Amusement Kava and run by Managing Director Nausheem Ali, represents a bold move in investing in an area that has become less attractive to potential investors.

Ali acknowledged the challenges and risks involved in launching a new business in Korovou. He reflected on his experience opening his first outlet in Laucala Bay during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when uncertainty was rampant. Despite concerns about customer availability, Ali pressed on and found success, which encouraged him to take on the challenge of establishing a new business in Korovou.

The venture involves an investment of around $100,000 for setup and stocking, and although initial patronage has been slow, Ali remains optimistic about growth over time. He prioritizes hiring local unemployed residents to alleviate the challenges posed by high transportation costs associated with seeking work in nearby Suva and Nausori.

Eliki Dakuitoga, the District Officer of Korovou, expressed enthusiasm for the new investment, highlighting its potential economic and social benefits for the community. He remarked that the kava bar will serve as a communal hub, fostering unity and engagement among the residents.

Community leaders share Dakuitoga’s optimistic outlook, hoping that the introduction of these twelve jobs and the new establishment will restore faith in Korovou Town, potentially paving the way for further investments. With this new venture, there is a renewed sense of hope for revitalizing Korovou and supporting its residents in achieving better economic opportunities.
