Kolora Mason, team leader at Tewaka Travel Services, was honored with the prestigious 2025 Dixon Seeto Tourism Leader Award during the ANZ Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards. Mason emphasized that leadership is fundamentally about service, stating, “One of the most important lessons I’ve learnt in this journey is taking the time to listen and hear my team members out.” This simple yet powerful gesture fosters a sense of recognition and value among team members, reinforcing the idea that a leader’s strength is directly linked to the support and cohesion of their team.

In her acceptance speech, Mason paid tribute to the late Dixon Seeto, acknowledging his tremendous impact and kindness within the tourism industry. She noted, “Dixon made the time for everyone and was a strong advocate for tourism growth, particularly during very trying times.” With the industry currently facing disconnection, she feels honored to receive an award that commemorates his legacy.

Mason highlighted the award as not only a symbol of her past accomplishments but also as motivation to continue raising standards and mentoring others within Fiji’s tourism sector. She recognizes the challenges of the industry, especially during crises, yet remains optimistic about its resilience and rewards.

Mason expressed gratitude for the support she receives from her company and attributed her determination to provide for her family as her driving force. “My children, Elijah, Maika, and Hannah, along with my husband Anthony, inspire me to provide better for them,” she shared. Additionally, she acknowledged her talented team members, Mahana Niafe, Mere Naqei, and Marama Pio, who contribute immensely to their collective success.

Mason’s journey reflects both personal and professional growth, shaped by the mentorship of influential individuals, Lala and James Sowane, who have played pivotal roles in her successes. Their guidance has helped her navigate the complexities of the industry and strive for further achievements.

The awards ceremony took place at the Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort and Spa, showcasing the vibrant talents of the tourism sector, including performances by Joseph Vuicakau, a semi-finalist from The Voice Australia, and recognizing other outstanding contributors, such as MESOVU (Fiji PTE) LTD, which received the Specialised Tourism Services Award.

Mason’s achievements and sentiments resonate with a hopeful outlook for the future of tourism in Fiji, embodying the spirit of resilience and collaboration essential in overcoming industry challenges while fostering its growth.
