King Charles III has expressed his disappointment over not being able to visit Fiji during his recent Pacific tour, which concluded at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa in October. This sentiment was shared during a meeting with Fiji’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Jovilisi Vulailai Suveinakama, at Buckingham Palace.

The King conveyed that medical advice prevented his visit but emphasized his wish to travel to Fiji in the future. He mentioned, “I am still keen to get to Fiji. Please send my regards to His Excellency the President. Fiji is very much in my heart.” During this meeting, His Majesty also discussed potential growth in economic ties, particularly in Fiji’s mahogany and sugar industries.

Furthermore, King Charles III acknowledged the significant role of over 2,000 Fijian soldiers currently serving in the British Armed Forces, highlighting their essential contributions to the UK’s defense capabilities.

In a broader context, the Fiji High Commission in London extends its diplomatic representation to several regions beyond the United Kingdom, underlining Fiji’s commitment to international relationships.

This message from the monarch not only strengthens ties between Fiji and the UK but also fosters optimism for future collaborations, particularly in sectors critical to Fiji’s economy. The focus on honoring Fijian soldiers and seeking enhanced economic interaction showcases the mutual respect and value that both nations place on their relationship.
