The Kaiviti Silktails Rugby League Football Club has marked a significant turning point as it unveiled a new logo that embodies the club’s challenging yet triumphant past and vibrant future. This logo, crafted from experiences of adversity, resilience, and the indomitable Kaiviti spirit, serves as more than just a design—it symbolizes a transformational phase for a club that has navigated through extraordinary hurdles typically unseen by expansion teams.
Under the leadership of NRL legend Petero Civoniceva as Chairman and Executive Director Stephen Driscoll, the Silktails have created an emblem that not only signifies their identity but also narrates their journey of determination and strength. Since their establishment in 2020, the club has faced considerable obstacles, notably the global COVID-19 pandemic, which abruptly interrupted their inaugural season. Players and staff found themselves isolated overseas, away from their families during an uncertain time, which tested their resolve.
Compounding these challenges was the heartbreaking loss of General Manager Jacquie Shannon, whose spirit remains a guiding force for the club. Her legacy is honored through the Silktails’ Community Logo, introduced in 2023 to commemorate her contributions and the community’s values that transcend the game itself.
On the field, the Silktails faced the tough competition of the Jersey Flegg Cup, enduring a grueling 26-round winless streak that could have broken many teams. Instead, it galvanized the club, leading them to achieve their first-ever victory in the Jersey Flegg competition, showcasing their unyielding spirit and determination that characterize Fijian rugby league.
The newly launched logo not only reflects a continuation of the journey from their original 2020 design and other emblems but also firmly positions the club for the future. Civoniceva emphasized that this logo is a tribute to the collective spirit of players, staff, supporters, and community partners who have been pivotal in the club’s growth. The design, created in collaboration with Aaron Eastgate of Westfence Creative, aligns with the Silktails’ affiliations, including their connection to the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs as a feeder club.
The bold and dynamic design of the logo symbolizes strength, speed, and relentless focus—qualities that the club has developed through its struggles. It represents not just a crest, but a declaration of the Silktails’ commitment to fostering a pathway for Fijian talent in elite rugby league and serving as a source of national pride.
The unveiling of this new logo signifies not only a fresh identity for the club but also a hope for a future marked by growth, resilience, and success as they continue to evolve within the sport.
