Renovations are officially underway at the Vunisea Hospital in Kadavu, with the Health Ministry confirming that services have been temporarily relocated to nearby facilities at Vunisea Government Station. This move is essential to ensure uninterrupted healthcare delivery to residents from 75 villages across nine districts while the renovations take place over the next six months.

During this period, several adjustments have been made to accommodate healthcare needs. The Hospital Conference Room will function as a temporary admission ward, and pharmacy services will be accessible from the Sub-Divisional Medical Officer’s Office. Furthermore, the General Outpatients Department will continue to operate from the hospital’s Old Wing, while Environmental Health (Licensing) and Physiotherapy services are being provided from the Ministry of Forestry Office. Food and Nutrition (Dietician) services will be available from the Ministry of Agriculture Office.

The Australian government is funding the renovation project, highlighting international support for improving healthcare infrastructure in Fiji. This development closely aligns with ongoing efforts to enhance health facilities across the region, such as those at Kamikamica Health Centre, which is also undergoing renovations to address deteriorating conditions. Similar initiatives at locations like Navua Hospital demonstrate a comprehensive approach to improving the healthcare system nationwide.

The Ministry of Health urges the community to exercise patience and support during the renovation phase. These renovations are not only crucial for upgrading existing facilities but also signify a commitment to better healthcare for all inhabitants of Kadavu, enhancing resilience within the healthcare sector.

This initiative offers hopeful expectations for a revitalized healthcare experience in Kadavu, ultimately benefiting the local population. As renovations progress, residents can look forward to improved services and facilities, paving the way for a healthier future.
