The Nakasaleka district in Kadavu is intensifying its initiatives to combat drug use and the distribution of harmful substances within its communities. In a concerted effort to address these issues, strict provisions have been introduced through local village by-laws aimed at ensuring effective enforcement.
District Officer Ravoama Walai emphasized the adoption of a zero-tolerance policy regarding drug-related activities, highlighting that the sale and distribution of drugs are strictly prohibited in the region. “Our people are very important to us. We have agreed on a zero-tolerance rule on drug use, and while things have been calm in recent weeks, our efforts will not weaken,” Walai stated.
The community’s resolve is evident, as local leaders and residents join forces to uphold and regulate these new village laws. Walai also underscored the social implications of drug involvement, warning that such actions not only bring disgrace to individuals and their families but also damage the reputation of the entire community.
In a bid to further strengthen these measures, the Nakasaleka district is collaborating closely with law enforcement agencies. This partnership aims to enhance monitoring, facilitate information sharing, and ensure prompt responses to drug-related incidents. The commitment from both the community and local authorities reflects a unified stance against substance abuse, fostering a safer and healthier environment for all residents.
