Kadavu’s women’s rugby team showcased a remarkable turnaround in their Marama Cup journey by achieving a commanding 76-0 victory over Yasawa at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. This win came as a significant rebound after their opening loss to Suva a fortnight prior, signaling their on-field resilience.

Team captain Vatiseva Cavuru expressed pride in the team’s performance, noting that their preparation was not without challenges. “We had to overcome obstacles during training, but we’re thankful for the ability to score this many points today,” she said. Cavuru reflected on the transition from the Ranadi Cup to this higher level of competition, emphasizing the progress the team has made and the toughness they expect from all competitors in the Marama Cup.

As they approach their next match against Tailevu, Cavuru highlighted the need to improve their defense and line-outs, aiming for a more refined performance. “We will work on our defense so that we can play in the coming week with an improved quality and work towards being in the top four,” she mentioned, indicating the team’s commitment to growth and excellence.

The Kadavu women’s team is part of a larger movement uplifting women’s rugby in Fiji, receiving enthusiastic support from their home community. Previously, Kadavu gained prominence after securing entry into the Marama Cup, a testament to their hard work and dedication.

Additionally, following their match, members of the Vodafone Fijiana XV engaged in a scrimmage with Manusina Samoa, an essential part of their preparations for the upcoming Women’s Rugby World Cup in England, showcasing the vibrant landscape of women’s rugby in the region.

The spirit of determination and community support surrounding Kadavu’s women’s rugby team instills optimism for their future matches and the advancement of the sport in their community. Their efforts underscore a collective aspiration to excel and inspire the next generation of female athletes in Fiji.
