The Y-Is Kava Vacalea Kadavu rugby team is showcasing remarkable resilience at the RC Manubhai Nataleira Rugby 7s tournament taking place at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori. Despite the exhaustion from competing in multiple tournaments, including last week’s Wairiki 7s, the team has maintained an undefeated record in their pool matches.
Hailing from various villages across Kadavu, the team achieved noteworthy results by holding Dominion Brothers to a 7-all draw, defeating Kombat Ulunikau 12-5, and conquering Bureta Young Boys with a score of 12-0 in Tier 2 of the men’s competition.
Team manager Savenaca Tokavai expressed pride in their achievements thus far, emphasizing that this is the seventh tournament they have participated in as a cohesive unit. He noted the long journey they have undertaken since the first Fiji Bitter 7s series in Kadavu, but highlighted the players’ passion for the game, which keeps their spirits high and their performance strong.
As the competition heats up, the team is set to face Supercool Vatukoro in the third quarter-final today, promising excitement for fans and supporters alike.
This story is a testament to the dedication of young athletes who, even when facing challenges like fatigue, continue to push forward for their love of the sport. Their journey is inspiring and showcases the power of teamwork and perseverance in sports.
