Fiji rugby 7s icon and dual Olympic gold medalist Jerry Tuwai is championing a community-focused business initiative, the Cagivou Supermarket, set to open tomorrow on Velau Drive in Kinoya, Suva. Tuwai, who has taken on the role of brand ambassador for the supermarket, joins a group of investors dedicated to providing affordable essential goods while simultaneously creating job opportunities for local youths.
The launch of Cagivou Supermarket is rooted in addressing local concerns about unemployment and other social challenges faced by young people in the Kinoya area. Alan Kumar, the general manager of Cagivou Investment Limited, articulates that this venture transcends mere commerce; it aspires to uplift the community. Kumar emphasized, “This is not just another mini supermarket. We want to give back to the people, and that’s why we chose Kinoya.”
The supermarket aims to diversify its offerings by including a pharmacy, a butcher, and essential services such as ticketing and mobile recharge options. Kumar stressed the uniqueness of this project, noting that most employees will be from Kinoya and surrounding settlements. “We saw a need to empower unemployed youth, especially those struggling to find opportunities,” he stated.
The grand opening is not only a milestone for Cagivou Supermarket but it will also herald announcements of upcoming projects intended to further support local communities, reflecting a hopeful and positive direction for economic resilience in the area.
This commendable initiative aligns with other local efforts, such as the recent openings of new business outlets in Suva that highlight the importance of community-driven projects. Like the TAU Sports Limited outlet, which recently opened in Suva with a significant investment to support local employment and accessibility, Cagivou Supermarket represents a similar spirit of recovery and growth, reinforcing the vital role of local enterprises in fostering economic stability and community well-being.
Together, these ventures indicate a promising trend in Suva and beyond, demonstrating the potential for businesses to contribute positively to their communities while addressing critical social issues like unemployment.
