With a demanding 2026 season on the horizon for Cricket Fiji, 16-year-old Jasvil Rokoro is determined to prove her worth and demonstrate that she deserves to don the national jersey. As the daughter of Cricket Fiji’s chief executive officer, Sitiveni Rokoro, questions regarding the merits of her selection to national squads over the past two years have inevitably arisen.
Jasvil is focused on dispelling any notion that her inclusion is merely a product of nepotism. She is intent on showcasing her skills and hard work, underscoring that merit, not family ties, is what earned her place on the team. “A lot of people usually talk of in the sense of me getting into the national teams through ‘backdoor.’ But I’m going to work hard to show them that I earned that place,” she stated confidently.
Jasvil made her debut representing Fiji at an under-19 women’s tournament in Indonesia, further solidifying her position by playing for the national women’s team at the same venue earlier this year. Notably, she also participated in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup East Asia Pacific Qualifier held in Albert Park, Suva, marking a significant milestone in her young career.
As she gears up for an exciting season ahead, Jasvil Rokoro embodies the spirit of perseverance and dedication. Her commitment to excellence is a hopeful testament to the growing talent within Fiji’s cricketing landscape, inspiring many young athletes to chase their dreams regardless of their background.
