The Ministry of Youth and Sports has expressed deep concern regarding the diminishing involvement of iTaukei youth in traditional cultural practices, highlighting the potential risk of losing significant cultural knowledge. Minister Jese Saukuru has observed that many young individuals are becoming increasingly consumed by social media, leading to a decline in their interest in cultural traditions.

Minister Saukuru emphasized the urgent need for programs designed to engage the youth more actively in their cultural heritage. “Our culture is not being transferred to our young ones. There is a need to introduce programs that will get them engaged,” he stated, underscoring a critical gap that needs to be addressed.

He also called upon parents to actively participate in their children’s cultural education, encouraging them to foster a better understanding of traditional practices and engage their children in learning and practicing these important customs. With the right initiatives, there is hope that young people can be inspired to connect with their cultural roots, ensuring that these traditions are preserved for future generations.
