Lami Kava Pte Ltd (LKPL), a well-known exporter and retailer of kava, has introduced a new product line named Islands Nature. This line features dehydrated instant kava powder and wellness products, including turmeric, ginger, and layalaya (wild ginger). The launch event took place at the company’s headquarters in Lami.
General Manager Edward Hoerder expressed that Islands Nature represents a significant advancement for the company, as it honors Fijian heritage by promoting traditional Fijian medicine globally. He highlighted LKPL’s dedication to quality, stating, “We’ve been in business for 40 years and are known for producing high-quality kava, but today we take a step forward in expanding our offerings.”
The initial product offerings under Islands Nature focus on turmeric for its anti-inflammatory properties, ginger for its digestive and immune support, and layalaya, a Fijian plant esteemed for its health benefits. Hoerder emphasized the company’s plan to partner with local farmers to source these plants, reinforcing their commitment to supporting local agricultural production, similar to their successful kava business.
The launch was officially inaugurated by Manoa Kamikamica, Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, who commended LKPL for its innovative spirit and dedication to advancing Fiji’s agricultural and export landscape. He remarked that this initiative significantly bolsters Fiji’s status as a premium source for kava and wellness products, aligning with the government’s efforts to enhance the agricultural sector and generate more economic opportunities for farmers.
The introduction of Islands Nature occurs during a period of growth and diversification in the kava industry, which has been recognized for its potential to evolve into a billion-dollar market, substantially benefiting local communities. Other local entrepreneurs, such as the Veitamani Kava Dealers, have also been active in supporting farmers by ensuring stable market access and aiding in agricultural development.
In conclusion, the launch of Islands Nature by Lami Kava signals a positive shift in the agricultural sector, blending innovation with cultural reverence while fostering thriving markets and better prospects for Fijian farmers. This initiative heralds a brighter future for the kava industry and the communities reliant on its cultivation.
