Reverend Etuate Lasaro delivered an inspiring message to students of Nakorosule District School in Naitasiri, urging them to “go beyond yourself.” This esteemed educational institution, the oldest in the province, has been nurturing the youth of Naitasiri for over six decades, producing notable figures like Dr. Asesela Ravuvu, a respected academic and senator.

The school recently celebrated its annual awards ceremony, which brought together the Waimaro community to honor and acknowledge the accomplishments of their children. Reverend Lasaro, along with his wife Dr. Ilisapeci, attended as the chief guests, marking the conclusion of their five-year tenure serving the community. Reverend Lasaro will transition to a new role as minister of the Methodist Church’s Nadera circuit.

In his address, Reverend Lasaro emphasized that education transcends textbooks and examinations; it is an all-encompassing journey that nurtures both mind and spirit. He quoted U.S. First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, echoing that education’s true value lies in making individuals whole.

He called on parents to recognize and celebrate their children’s efforts, regardless of accolades, reminding them of their vital role in their children’s development and well-being. “Make them a special lunch, take them somewhere nice,” he suggested, encouraging additional gestures of love and appreciation. He stressed the importance of prioritizing family welfare over community obligations, urging that the focus should always be on the children.

Reverend Lasaro also highlighted critical issues such as drug use and teenage pregnancies affecting local youth, urging families to adopt strong leadership at home. He believes that the responsibility for raising well-behaved children starts within the family unit, and he implored parents to avoid placing blame elsewhere when challenges arise.

The event also celebrated the achievements of students like Ratu Isoa Vuniamatana, who made history as the first male recipient of the DUX award at Nakorosule District. Ratu Isoa expressed gratitude to his teachers and parents and wished his fellow Year 8 graduates luck as they transition to secondary school.

Dr. Ilisapeci Lasaro further motivated students, encouraging them not to settle for mediocrity but to strive for excellence. She recounted the successful journey of her sister, who, despite never winning an award in school, emerged as a respected state lawyer through hard work and determination.

In summary, Nakorosule District School’s annual awards ceremony was not just a celebration of academic accomplishments but also a heartfelt reminder of the community’s collective role in nurturing youth. The messages shared during the event resonate with hope and encourage families to invest in their children’s futures, demonstrating that through love, support, and dedication, young individuals can achieve wonderful things.

This event serves as a testament to the power of education, community support, and the belief that every child can reach their highest potential.
